For nearly two decades, The Nutcracker ballet was a staple of the holiday season in The Gorge. Ballet Director Nancy Clement and her many students at the Columbia Gorge Dance Academy each year brought scenes of the eternal favorite to life. From tiny mice to the elegant Sugar Fairy, Nancy coaxed heartfelt performances from hundreds of children over the years. And those efforts touched the lives of thousands of locals.
Last year, the curtain rose on the beloved event for the final time. And this year, the community will have one last chance to experience this heartwarming holiday tradition.
“The Last Nutcracker” is a beautifully produced documentary film created by White Salmon cinematographer Michael Peterson. It shares a rare glimpse behind the scenes leading up to the final performance, and shows just how many lives have been influenced by the perennial dance production.
The film premiers on November 18th, 2017 at the Columbia Center for the Arts in Hood River, Oregon. It promises to be a moving event, reuniting 19-years of dancers and the community for one last look at Nancy’s Nutcracker. Showtimes at 7:30pm, 5:00pm, and 1:00pm. Tickets available on-line or at Waucoma Books. $15/adults, $12.50 children 12 and under.
