Husum July 4th Parade & .1K Micro-Marathon @ "Downtown" Husum
Jul 4 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Join in the biggest, smallest town 4th of July parade in the Gorge, in Husum, WA. Everyone and anyone is welcome to march or roll along with other floats along the parade route, join the Husum Yacht & Canoe Club Kazoo Band, parade in a costume with the hula-hoop hula dancers, or just observe the craziness as a spectator along the 1/4 mile parade route.

husum4th2010colorguard Husum, WA, loves its annual July 4th Parade and .1K Micro-Marathon Fun Run, not surprisingly on July 4th.  The parade includes an ex-military honor guard, floats, a kazoo band, antique vehicles, animals, and many 10’s of (costumes encouraged) participants and spectators lining the streets. The parade begins at (or about) 10:00am at the north end of Main Street and proceeds south and east along the approximately 1/4 mile (440 yards) parade route to the Husum St. bridge over the White Salmon River.

husum4th2010hycfloatEveryone and anyone is welcome to participate in the parade. To “march” in the parade just begin to congregate at the North end of Main Street around 9:30am. Or you are encouraged to at least line the streets as spectators about 10:00am, and then join the procession to the end of the parade route.

husum4th2010tshirtfrontAt the end of the route everyone, parade participants and following spectators alike, will turn around and take off on the famous Husum .1K Micro-Marathon Fun Run (yes, that’s point 1 kilometer, 100 meters, approximately 328 feet!!!). For anyone who needs hydration during the run the micro-marathon includes a mid-run water stop, and there’s a huge group photo at the end.

There is no entry fee for either the parade or the micro-marathon, even though the run includes the totally awesome water stop, and the event includes a free hot dog barbeque and no-host bar following the parade and fun run at nearby Wet Planet Whitewater Grill. However, if you must drop some cash, you can purchase an Official Husum .1k Micro-Marathon Fun Run T-shirt for only $20 to commemorate this spectacular patriotic celebration.

The annual parade began in 2005 with a small group of goofy locals marching down Main Street “just for patriotic fun”. It has since grown to become the self-proclaimed “Biggest Small Parade in the Country”. Though it’s still pretty goofy, this may be the best way ever to celebrate this great country and this magical place we live.
